Charity shows are out to make money?

did not follow the President's Star Charity show last night on Channel 5, but caught a glimpse of the interview with President Nathan on the Chinese channel morning news. Was pretty disturbed when I heard this phrase from him. Something like he is glad that Singaporeans are still charitable in nature, even after the NKF saga and that the show has managed to make money. Did I hear wrongly?? MAKE money? are charities business organisations?? you make money from the donations like ordinary folks out there? Let's give him the benefit of doubt but what I am trying to stress here, the correct word that should be used here is money RAISED lor... Sigh... My engerlish already not very good, but don't you think as our national leader, you should be more tactful with the words used... especially during this sensitive period...
